AMERICAN CIVIL WAR DESIGNER
Pietro del Fabro is a designer, sculptor and writer. He has completed public art commissions in South Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., New Jersey and New York. His interest in the Civil War developed early. He was a United States History major at Hobart College and later served in the U. S. Army Infantry. In 2008 he completed his design for the American Civil War Memorial in Waterloo, NY. The project includes sixty-two sculptures in marble and limestone. The American Civil War Memorial was noted by CBS-TV as a Top Five Must-See Civil War Era Site in New York State.
Other major commissions include the West Windsor (NJ) Veterans’ Monument (1990) for which he received a citation for meritorious service from the American Legion. In 1993 he received an award from the National Art Honor Society for artistic contributions to the community. He was a regular contributor to Environment & Art Letter (Chicago, LTP) on the subject of Italian Romanesque and Renaissance art and architecture (1994-2005). He completed a limestone stele for the United States Forest Service in 2005. The stele, which commemorates the four Alaskan leaders who lost their lives at the 2005 Boy Scout Jamboree, is on display at the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Forest Service. In 2016 Pietro designed and completed work on The American Legion Centennial Memorial in Princeton Junction, NJ. The memorial design is based on a program of poetry fragments in stone. The verse addresses the subjects of service, sacrifice and loss with a focus on World War I poetry written during the period of the American Legion’s formation. His Civil War novel, Savages Station was published in 2016.
